A co-wash is one of the most important steps to give your curls the care they need. This is because a co wash conditioner is a conditioner free of sulfates. In short, a co-wash is short for a light conditioner washing that is milder for hair and scalp.

Description

The Co-wash in a nutshell

A co-wash stands for "conditioner only wash" and is the perfect middle ground between a conditioner and shampoo for anyone following the Curly Girl Method.

For co-washing, you can use a cleansing conditioner to gently cleanse your hair (between washes).

There are multiple types of co-wash products, our special cleansing co-wash conditioner contains more cleansing ingredients than a normal conditioner.

Deep cleansing with shampoo too often can be just a little too stripping for your hair. A co-wash is the solution for anyone following the Curly Girl Method who wants to wash their hair more than once a week. This is why we recommend alternating our products to retain as much moisture in the hair as possible.

The oils our scalp produces take longer to migrate to the hair strands when you own curls. With straight hair, this happens much faster. So when you wash your hair with a shampoo that contains a lot of harsh cleansers your hair stays dry. Curls are naturally drier anyway. A co wash helps with this, as it keeps your scalp hydrated.

What are the benefits of the Co-wash?

There are many advantages when you use the co wash. We have listed the most important ones for you:

  • Co-wash for curly hair
  • With protein
  • Prevents dry scalp and split ends
  • Prevents oily hair and frizzy hair
  • Cleanses hair and scalp gently
  • Moisturizes your curls
  • Contains quinoa and tamanu oil
  • Free of parabens, silicones, sulfates, mineral oils and SLS/SLES

Is the Co-wash CG proof?

The co-wash is recommended to be used in conjunction with the Curly Girl Method. Because the co-wash is free of parabens, silicones and SLS/SLES, among other ingredients.

For some curlies with a finer hair type or a looser curl prefer not to use co wash. It would be too heavy on the hair, but nowadays there are co-washes that are lighter. With fine hair, we recommend using a CG shampoo in addition to a co wash.

Our cleansing co wash is a gentle way to clean your hair, so it doesn't harm all the natural oils on your scalp.

Your scalp contains natural where dirt sticks to it, this is called a build up. It is important to keep in mind that there should be a correct balance between cleansing and moisturizing. After all, you don't want your scalp to be stripped of natural oils. But it is also important to properly care for and soften your scalp. Notice your hair getting too oily? Then alternate your co-wash with a shampoo.

If you use a shampoo with sulfates, your hair will dry out faster than if you use a sulfate-free conditioner. Largely, a co-wash contains natural ingredients and these products are free of silicones, parabens and, of course, sulfates.

Our co-wash with protein is made specifically for the Curly Girl Method to help define your curls, maintain shine, soften and prevent frizz.

How do I use the Co-wash?

The co wash conditioner is easy to use but we give you a few more guidelines to use the conditioner most effectively:

1. Wet the hair in the shower with warm water.

2. Then apply a generous amount of the co-wash to the scalp.

3. Gently massage the product in.

4. If necessary, apply some more water to your curls to easily distribute the cowash.

5. Do not forget to spread the product all over your skull. This includes the back and sides. These areas can sometimes be forgotten, so pay attention to them.

6. Next, scrub your scalp with your fingers to loosen the dirt.

7. After that, rinse out your curls.

8. Comb your hair through on soaking wet hair with a coarse comb or brush.

9. Let your curls dry. Next, get to work with your styling products. Just keep in mind that you don't use any other hair products with silicones.

10. Do you suffer from extremely dry hair? Then you might want to use a conditioner.

How often can I use the Co-wash?

First, we would like to inform you that every hair type is different. Therefore, how your hair reacts to the product also varies. We recommend that you keep a close eye on your hair and keep experimenting with different routines.

It is possible to experiment with these different routines:

1. Use a CG Shampoo every week in combination with a conditioner or mask

2. Use only a conditioner on your second day of washing.

Would you like to wash more often because you exercise a lot, for example? Then you could possibly replace the second wash day with a cowash as well. If you want to wash your hair more often than twice, it is also advisable to use a cowash.

We do not recommend using deep conditioners and intensive masks as a co wash. These hair products are a lot heavier and not suitable to use several times a week. If you do, build up will occur more quickly.

Again, it's always a matter of experimentation! But our tip is not to give up. Sometimes it takes a while until your hair visibly changes. So this is not always visible after the first wash. So patience is a virtue in this case!
