The best tips for curly hair
Curly hair is beautiful, but on the other hand, it takes a lot of work to take care of our curls. To make life as a curlygirl a little easier, we have listed some tips for you.
1. Don't wash your hair too often
Curly hair naturally has a drier texture than straight hair. Your scalp produces natural oils, which are essential to nourish your hair.
This oil has a longer way to travel to the ends than in straight hair due to the waves in the hair. This means that curly hair is often drier than straight hair.
Therefore, it is important not to shampoo curly hair too often so that the hair can retain these natural oils. Washing with shampoo once a week is sufficient. Do you feel the need to wash your hair more often?
Then use a co-wash in the middle of the week. This will clean your hair, but will not strip your hair of all the natural oils you need.
2. Use a mask regularly
It is important to intensely nourish your curls several times a month. Only our moisture conditioners use is unfortunately not enough. Therefore, use a mask every week or once every two weeks that suits the needs of your hair. Do you have damage from using heat or dyeing your hair? Then use a mask that repairs damage and provides your hair. We also call this a deep conditioner.
3. Only tangle out your hair when wet and with products
Curly hair is more likely to break down than straight hair, which is why it is better not to tangle your hair when it is dry. Because of waves and curls, tangles are also more common in our hair type.
When these tangles are wet and a conditioner or hair mask is pulled into the hair, the tangles glide out better. Therefore, comb out your curls at least once a week. Start at the ends and work your way up to your scalp.
4. Use a leave-in conditioner and a gel
Besides a conditioner and a mask, your hair also needs to be taken care of when you get out of the shower. There are dozens of ways to style your curls, and the best way depends on your needs and your curls.
So, the perfect hair routine for curls does not exist. However, we do advise every curl type to have a good leave-in conditioner and gel to use. A leave-in conditioner nourishes your hair and a gel seals this nourishment and keeps your curls in shape.
5. Drying with cold air
Extreme heat causes damage to your curls. Even the highest heat setting on your hair dryer can cause heat damage.
Therefore, let your curls air dry after styling or use a diffuser. It is best to then use the hair dryer on the lowest heat and speed setting.
6. Visit a curly hairdresser regularly
Many curlygirls don't like going to the hairdresser. We've all come back from the barber with hair that's too short or uneven. Therefore, visit a hairdresser who specializes in curls.
They know exactly how best to cut curls and from then on you will look forward to going to the hairdresser more. It is very healthy to have the tips of your hair cut at least every three months.
This ensures that you don't get split ends, less tangles and your curls can continue to grow healthily.
7. Protect your curls while sleeping
While sleeping, curls are very prone to break. You move a lot in your sleep and your hair rubs your pillow and your bed, this can cause breakages in your hair.
So it is important to protect your curls while sleeping. Consider a Sleeping Cap or a scarf made of silk or satin. This is soft and this allows your curls to keep their natural shape and protects them from breaking.
